Description:
Bayete - There is a place where special things happen.
We are a member of the 22 000 ha Zululand Rhino Reserve. Privately we own the 2 300 ha Mkuze West portion of this reserve.

We consider the reserve to be one of the most densely stocked and ecologically balanced in northern KwaZulu-Natal. The reserve consists of a varied landscape of mountains, open plains and dense riverine woodlands. The diversity of its flora and high carrying capacity make this an animal Eden, ensuring guests that regardless of weather or circumstance they will always enjoy excellent game viewing with interesting drives and walks.

Bedrooms: Our Lodge consists of 8 Colonial luxury rooms, all en suite, with spacious sunken baths, open showers and separate toilet.

Each individually decorated room has top quality twin beds with a double fold-out ottoman. All our rooms are equipped with mosquito nets, air-conditioning, ceiling fans and a mini bar that is well stocked with a selection of beverages and light snacks.

For your convenience, in-room safes are provided for the safekeeping of all cash, travel documents and other such articles

Lounge: The whole family can sink into our couches, the perfect place to laze around in the afternoon before heading off to a sundown safari.

Cigar Bar: There's the formal lounge, complete with a fully stocked wine cellar. Choose from a range of imported cigars or warm yourself with a night cap next to the cosy fireplace.

Starlight Bar: The perfect ending to the perfect day. Reflect on your adventures over a night cap under our canopy of lights.

Rimflow pool: After a game drive, you can relax in our revitalising rimflow pool, while our staff prepare cocktails for your enjoyment.

Indoor and Outdoor dining: If the night air is a bit chilled or you just want an intimate dinner experience. You can join us for dinner under the stars on the Deck, at the Rano Boma. We also have the gathering pit where we can organise a BBQ, it is the perfect spot for a family to chat and toast their marshmallows after dinner.

Pumba Club: There?s always plenty for the kids to do in addition to being awestruck by the wild animals and incredible bush scenery. There are jungle gyms, seesaws, swings, a trampoline and tree house. Lounge area with TV and Sony Playstations.

Gymnasium: If you've still got energy after your long bush walk under the unrelenting African sun, you can work up a further sweat in our gymnasium that has the best equipment, imported all the way from Italy.

Jacuzzi: Tired of the sun? Move onto the deck under the Boma. Emulate our hippos while you wallow with a glass of champagne in our warm waters pumped freshly from underground lakes hundreds of metres below the earth.
Game drives: Being one of the most densely stocked reserves in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, a drive with one of our knowledgeable field drivers is guaranteed to be an adventure. Come watch our hippos wallow, while their babies ride on their backs. Two game drives are offered. Tea, coffee and rusks are served on the morning game drive.
Guided walks: Feel the sun come out on your face as your breath blows steam into the cool morning air whilst your guide walks you through the reserve.

Elephant and rhino interaction: Davidson, our Zimbabwean handler, introduces you to the majestic "Bayete" - our bull elephant. Marvel in God's creation as you are dwarfed by the majesty of Bayete?s incredible size.

Meet Princess Kwezi, raised by the famous Karen Trendler at her re-hab centre in Gauteng following Kwezi's separation from her mother during the 2003 KwaZulu-Natal drought.

Zululand activities: Allow us to be your base camp while you explore the delights of Zululand. We'll arrange the following activities for you if they are not on the reserve we will take you to your chosen destination such as deep sea fishing; scuba diving; whale watching; horse riding; cultural village tours; dolphin trips; St Lucia boat cruise or Cape Vidal trips.

Indaba centre: We accommodate groups of up to sixteen. Set away from the lodge, our facilities include flip boards and white boards. Bring your laptop, plug it in and you are in your office - but what an office!

With one wall under a retractable cover, move the cover and you are exposed to a sun deck with a view facing the Lebombo Mountains.
If it's hot, drop the cover with its see-through panel, and flick on the aircon. This is the perfect environment for everyone.

The Lodge can offer outdoor catering on the sun deck or you may also opt for formal dining in the Melting Pot Restaurant.

Available upon request, we also offer message facilities, faxing and photocopying.
